Frequently asked questions❓
It reads only the earthly branch of your birth year, not the full Saju chart. Close relationships like samhap and yukhap and rough ones like sangchung and wonjin come first. If neither applies, the Five Elements decide whether the two signs support each other or clash.
That's samhap. Samhap puts three signs in one group, like Monkey, Rat, and Dragon. Those three sit four places apart on the cycle, so four-year gaps often land in the same group. That's where the saying comes from.
That's sangchung. Lay the twelve branches out like a clock, and six places apart sits exactly across. So the two are read as opposite in both temperament and direction. Being opposites also means you can pick up what the other one has.
It's the pairing where you end up feeling let down even though neither side did anything wrong. Six pairs fall here: Rat-Goat, Ox-Horse, Tiger-Rooster, Rabbit-Monkey, Dragon-Pig, and Snake-Dog. It's read as the trickiest of the branch relationships.
Sources disagree on when the zodiac animal turns over: ipchun (around February 4) or Lunar New Year. If you were born in January or early February, your sign depends on which rule you follow. A birth date would give some people the wrong answer, so you pick the sign you already know.
Take it as entertainment. A real Saju reading weighs all eight characters: year, month, day, and hour. A zodiac match reads just one of them. What happens between two people is still up to the two of them.
