Korean and Japanese sizes are the foot length itself, so those two always agree. EU, UK and US sizes are naming conventions, and brands differ by up to a full size.
Built from the ISO 19407 relationships, so the chart and the converter above can never disagree.

Why a Korean shoe says 260

China and Taiwan use the same millimetre system as Korea, so a size that fits in Seoul fits in Taipei.
SystemWhat the number isHow reliable
Korea (mm) and Japan (cm)The foot length itself, under ISO 9407They match each other exactly
Europe (EU)Last length counted in Paris points of two thirds of a centimetreBrands vary by around half a size
UK and USAn old convention descended from barleycorn lengthsBrands vary by up to a full size

Buying shoes in Korea

Measure in the evening, heel against a wall, to the tip of the longest toe. Use the longer foot.
SituationWhat to do
You only know your US sizeConvert it here and ask for the millimetre number. Staff will not recognise 'a nine'
Nothing between sizesMondopoint grades in 5mm steps, so 255 and 260 exist but 257 does not
Wide feetKorean lasts run narrow. Going up one 5mm step is common, but try both

FAQ ❓

A US men's 8.5 is about 260mm and a US women's 8 is about 240mm. Korean shops label by millimetres of foot length, so 260 is not a code for anything - it is the length the shoe is built to fit.
Both use Mondopoint, defined in ISO 9407, where the size is the foot length itself. Korea writes it in millimetres and Japan in centimetres, so 250mm and 25.0cm are the same measurement. China and Taiwan do the same.
That is the standard grading interval in Mondopoint. So a conversion from an EU or US size rarely lands on a round number, and this converter also shows the nearest size you can actually pick off the shelf.
The same number is defined against a different foot length for each. A US women's 8 corresponds to a men's 7, roughly 8.5mm of length. That is why this converter asks about it only when you choose US sizes.
Size charts only cover length. Width and instep height are not in them, and Korean lasts run narrow by international standards, so wide or high-arched feet often go up a size here. Check the brand's own chart before ordering online.
Stand with your heel against a wall and measure to the tip of your longest toe in millimetres. Measure in the evening, when your feet have swollen slightly, and use the longer foot if the two differ.
